Vacancy

Over a million designers use Sketch to transform their ideas into incredible products. Would you like to join us and excite people about what’s next for our platform? We're looking to expand our team with a full-time Technical Writer.

What you'll do

Working within the marketing and product teams, you’ll be helping our audience understand and make the most of Sketch creating and maintaining our product documentation. Your role will primarily involve creating written content about Sketch — so excellent English, writing experience and knowledge about our product is a must.

Experience

On a typical day, you will:

  • Create documentation to support product features and updates and help people learn how to make the most of them.

  • Work with product managers, Design Advocates and other stakeholders to continuously improve and update our existing documentation.

  • Plan and execute improvements to the docs navigation and structure. You'll find ways to improve the user's experience when using the docs, making sure it's easy for them to find the information they need.

  • Use analytics and other research method to evaluate the performance and efficacy of our documentation, making improvements where necessary.

  • Coordinate closely with our design team to make sure that our documentation meets our high visual standards.

  • Get to know our product inside out, understand how it works, why features are important and how best to use them — then find the best ways to share that knowledge with our customers.

  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with lots of other talented people.

  • Support other members of product with their work, where necessary.

Responsibilities

What we're looking for

  • You’ll be an experienced technical writer with a love for design and plenty of examples of your writing to share with us. You don’t need to be a professional writer or designer, but perhaps you've done a few personal projects in Sketch or you have a blog where you teach people about design-related topics. You’ll be a fast learner, eager to understand design concepts, figure out new features and explain them to our audience in a clear way.

  • You enjoy transforming complicated concepts into digestible, easy-to-understand content that helps people achieve their goals. You believe instructional content can be engaging and tailored to different learning styles and you understand it needs to be helpful for multiple audiences and their level of expertise. You'll be proactive, full of ideas and have a sharp eye for detail, especially when it comes to your own work.

  • Our team works remotely, so you will need to have excellent grasp written English, great communication skills and be comfortable working in a remote position.

Essentials

  • 2+ years in technical writing, communications or design-related role.

  • A background or strong personal interest in design.

  • A working knowledge of Sketch and other design software.

  • Strong examples of your writing (whether its for a personal blog or elsewhere).

  • An excellent level of written English.

  • Able to work and communicate as part of a remote, but close-knit team.

  • Enjoy working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with lots of other talented people.

  • Able to adapt quickly to a brand voice and house style guide.

  • You’re based in or close to European/African timezones.

    Bonus points

    • Experience working in fast-paced product teams or customer-facing departments within a product.

    • Experience using analytics to measure impact and inform content.

    • Design and/or video editing skills that you can apply to and enhance documentation.

    • Experience scaling documentation or other instructional content.

    • Experience of writing technical guides or tutorials.

    • Experience with content management systems and collaboration tools like Notion.
